Kelley's FKAKY are the Champions!

Kelley held off Jim from making the second week comeback to take his second title in Beaver Roto League history. Jim was up 10.5 - 1.5 on Sunday, but Kelley rode big performances from Soriano, Braun, Pence, and Rollins to grab enough categories to hold on to his huge lead from week 1.

Congrats to Kelley!

I'm trying out this new Wiki service called WetPaint. If you're interested, check out the Beaver Roto League Wiki:

I thought it would be a good place to collaborate on league rules and give a place for each team to have their team pages.

Finals Round 1, Jim is down big

Jim is losing to Kelley by about the same amount that Kelley came back from last week. So we know it's possible, but can Jim do it?

Jim needs a 9.5 - 2.5 win to take the championship. Kelley just needs to hang on to take his first title since 1999.

Since I didn't get a chance last week, here's the latest playoff bracket:

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Finals are set

Jim powered his way to another finals appearance and Kelley had a huge comeback to make his first finals ever.

Kelley 10 - Dan 2

The final results for this week were very close, but all of the chips fell right for Kelley and he pulled out the huge win against Dan. Dan's pitching let him down as he could only muster 27 IP. Lots of runs though.

Jim 7.5 - Matt 4.5

Total hitting domination from Jim dispelled any hopes of a comeback from Matt. Jim is looking very strong this post-season.

Round 3 (semis), Week 1

Dan 9.5 - Kelley 2.5

Wow. Amazing week by Dan. He is poised to pull off his second major upset of the playoffs and be the lowest seeded team to make the finals (Jason was the #5 seed last season when he won).

Kelley must feel like he can't buy a break. He hits 15 HRs and Dan hits 17. He gets 4 SBs and Dan gets 6. And after his SPs just got like 8 wins in one week, they come up with only one win. It will be tough for Kelley to come back from this one down 9.5 - 2.5, but its possible.

Jim 8 - Matt 4

Jim quietly is rolling through the playoffs. Not a commanding lead in week one, but there's definitely some breathing room. He is looking to make his second Finals appearance in three years.

FKAky advance

I haven't been good at blogging this past week but all is well with Team FKAky. After a scare in the first week, Team FKAky dominated the Box Chowers 11 to 1 in week 2 to advance to the semifinals of the Beaver Roto League Playoffs.

It looks like we will be playing the 7th seed Pickle Weasels this week as they upsetted the defending champions.

Playoffs Round 2, Week 2

Two upsets in round to and one near miss make things interesting down the stretch.

Much like last year, the #5 team moved on. Unlike last year, the #1 team is still intact to face the #5 team.

Jim beat Calvin to squeak into the second round. Even though they tied after two week, both winning one game 7-5, Jim moved on due to having the higher seed.

Dan blew out to a huge week one lead and head the lead in week two for a comfortable win. So the big upset this year is the #2 losing to the #7 team (me losing to Dan).

Kelley beat Brian fairly comfortably and will have to face the upset minded Pickle Weasels.

Round 3 should be interesting. Will Matt make it into the money after publicly declaring his season over in week 6? Will Kelley finally make it into the money after coming so close last season? Can Jim get into his second finals in 3 years? Or can Dan become the lowest seed ever to make it into the finals?

Round 2, Week 1

Ouch. I got rocked by Dan. 10-2. Hopefully there's some magic left in my team. I need an epic comeback.

In other news, the favorites are all up 1-0.

Playoffs Round 1, Week 2 - The favorites win

Well, both Dustin and Todd got a major beating at the hands of the higher (lower?) seeds. Dustin was leading over the weekend, but somehow slipped way back and lost convincingly.

2.0 Dustin's Diggleturb
10.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

3.0 Todd's Heaters
9.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters

Here's the updated playoff bracket:

Interesting Article about trade deadline pickups

I was reading and interesting article that was posted on USA Today's fantasy baseball section and I liked this quote.

"In general, waiting on one player to lift your Roto team to a championship is a long-shot proposition. The strongest teams are assembled over the course of the season, and the most valuable free agent acquisitions are the ones made early in the season, when they have several months, not weeks, to contribute."

The whole article can be found here.

Playoffs Round 1, Week 1

Dan was the big winner in week one. Dustin will have a tough time coming back from that deficit.

Meanwhile, Calvin just held on against Todd to get the early lead in week 1. A veerrrry close week. Should be an interesting week 2.

2.0 Dustin's Diggleturb
10.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

5.0 Todd's Heaters
7.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters

Playoffs Round 1 Update

Things are going according to plan so far in the first week of the playoffs. Both Dan and Calvin are the higher seeds and both are ahead early.

8.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
4.0 Todd's Heaters

Todd isn't that far behind and with 3 wins and a great pitching week so far, he could make a comeback. Calvin is up early on the strength of Garrett Atkins who has 7 RBI and is hitting .875 in two days and Felipe Lopez who has 2 HRs and is batting .625.

10.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels
2.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dustin isn't doing bad in hitting so he's got a shot to make things closer. Unfortunately Ryan Howard (2 HRs), Troy Tulowitzki (2 HRs .666 BA), and new acquisition Luis Castillo (.429 BA) are hot this week. Its the pitching that isn't even close so far. Dustin has a shot there too though because Dan has no wins and Dustin has had no starters pitch.

Playoff Bracket filled out and weekly points results and analysis

I calculated all of the points last night and as a side project I decided to calculate some stats with it. Pretty cool stuff in there (click image to expand).

Check out Dustin. He seemed to rarely go outside his 5-7 point range. He hardly ever lost by more than 7-5 until the last three weeks of the season. He needed to draft two more categories!

Who's hot at the end of the season? Jim, Kelley, Matt, Brian, and Calvin are all over .500 in the last 5 weeks of the season.

How about Brian's start to the season? Three 10-2 wins and three ties. Wild.

Here's the Playoff bracket:

So the first two weeks will be:

Calvin vs. Todd

Dan vs. Dustin

Everyone else gets a bye for round 1.

Week 18 Results (Final Regular Season Games)

Brian pulled out a tie with Andy on the last day which essentially dropped Andy from a 2 seed to a 4 seed. Ouch. Kelley tied Jason in the standings, but Jason gets the higher seed based on head-to-head points. Matt's win moves him above Brian into 5th and Dan's loss tied him with Calvin in the standings. However, Dan kept his higher seed due to head-to-head points.

Team of the week is: Brian's Box Chowers. His massive IP total won it out for him. That's how he tied Andy on the final day of the week.

6.0 Brian's Box Chowers
6.0 Andy's Full Flanull

8.5 Jim's Beaners
3.5 Todd's Heaters

6.5 Kelley's FKAKY
5.5 Prothero's Poppers

8.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
4.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

6.5 Matt's Utility Men
5.5 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Final Standings:
                                                        Categories

Playoff Bracket

The playoffs will look like this: (click image to zoom in)

That means the top six teams will get a bye in the first round (first two weeks).

If two teams tie then in the regular season standings, then the first tie breaker is head-to-head points in each week. For example, two teams are 1-1. The first week, team A won 9-3. The second week, team B won 7-5. Team A gets the higher seed.

In three way ties (or more), I'm not exactly sure of the best way to calculate. I'll post something on the Google-group. I'm thinking that we could use largest win differential (over the course of a season - points for/points against). But that may be a pain to calculate. Otherwise it will be some crazy head-to-head-to-head formula. That might be easier to calculate.

For now I think I'll go with head-to-head-to-head. If there's not a clear winner (no one team beat all other teams its tied with, then go with season point differential.

Whew!

Week 17 Results

Jim kept his half game lead going into the final week of the regular season with a win over Andy. Meanwhile, Jason pulled out a win vs. Calvin with a huge weekend and took sole possession on 2nd place. Kelley sqeaked out a 6.5-5.5 win over Todd to tie Andy for 3rd place.

This week's matchups:

Jim's Beaners vs Todd's Heaters
Kelley's FKAKY vs Prothero's Poppers
Matt's Utility Men vs Dan's Pickle Weasels
Brian's Box Chowers vs Andy's Full Flanull
Calvin's Slumpbusters vs Dustin's Diggleturb

Kelley vs. Jason is a huge matchup. Andy has another tough matchup with Brian on deck. Jim gets the easiest matchup against Todd.

10.5 Jim's Beaners
1.5 Andy's Full Flanull

6.5 Kelley's FKAKY
5.5 Todd's Heaters

3.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
9.0 Prothero's Poppers

8.5 Matt's Utility Men
3.5 Dustin's Diggleturb

7.0 Brian's Box Chowers
5.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Week 16 Results

The two teams tied for first are now tied for second as Jim beat Jason and passed both Andy and Jason. This week will be huge as Jim plays Andy.

7.0 Matt's Utility Men
5.0 Andy's Full Flanull

Andy could have had the win with just a little more hitting. Hopefully his team steps it up against Jim!

9.5 Brian's Box Chowers
2.5 Todd's Heaters

Todd had a bad week... Brian is coming on strong down the stretch.

6.5 Jim's Beaners
5.5 Prothero's Poppers

Arg! 1 run, or 1 save, or 1 win away from a tie.

9.0 Kelley's FKAKY
3.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Kelley is in 4th. Challenging for 2nd. He put up the numbers last week.

7.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
5.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Calvin's pitching overcame Dan's monster hitting week.

How long until...

Andy picks up Julio Franco?

Thursday, July 19, 2007

Chris Carpenter

Chris Carpenter will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season.

How's that five-year extension looking now? The Cardinals gave Carpenter a $63.5 million deal last winter, even though he was already under control through 2008. Maybe he'll come back and be something worth close to that. However, as many arm problems as he's had over the course of his career, there's just no guarantee that he'll ever again be a dominant starter. Tommy John surgery will put him out through at least the All-Star break. It's probably about 60-40 that he'll come back and make a positive impact over the final two months of 2008.

From Rotoworld.com

Three weeks to go....

I was interested to see the strength of schedule for the remaining three matchups. I have compiled each teams remaining opponents records to formulate a magically number. I will then come up with predictions based on these numbers to what I think the seedings will be for the playoffs.

It looks like the Beaners have the toughest schedule for the remainder of the season. The Pickle Weasels have the easiest schedule by far. The look to move up in the standings. Here are my predictions for the final standings. The Beaners made the biggest drop (dropping two spots) while the Pickle Weasels made the biggest jump (up two spots). This should make for an interesting three weeks.

1) Full Flanull
2) Poppers
3) Pickle Weasels
4) FKAky
5) Beaners
6) Box Chowers
7) Utility Men
8) Heaters
9) Diggleturb
10) Slumpbusters

The battle for the last spot could be determined on the final week as Calvin and Dustin square off against each other. That should make for an interesting matchup.

Week 15 Results

Team of the week: Kelley's FKAKY. He had good ratios and lead the week in HRs with 13. Unfortunately Andy had a monster pitching week and got the tie.

With Andy and Jason both ending up with a tie (how weird is that?), Jim moves in for a virtual tie at the top. All three teams are tied on wins with Jim having that extra loss.

6.0 Kelley's FKAKY
6.0 Andy's Full Flanull

WOW: Week 13!

I thought that I would do something different this week. I usually do the WOW last and it always shows up on the top of the blog page. So this week I am doing it last so that it doesn't over shadow the POW's.

This weeks nominee's (according to Andy) Everyone besides me!!!

But in reality here are the nominee's and the loser are Brain Fuentes and Adrian Gonzalez. Fuentes gets the award for temporarily losing his closing role. Here are there stats for this past week. Adrian gets the award for being in a horrible slump.

Brian Fuentes - Heaters
3 G's, 2 L's, 0 Sv, 2.1 Ip, 8 Er's, 30.848 Era, and 3.856 Whip
It seems like if you are a closer on Todd's team that you are destined to lose your closing position sometime during the season. (He got rid of Dan Wheeler at the right time, Thanks Todd!)

Adrian Gonzalez - Diggleturb
1 for 23, 1 Rbi, 7 K's, .0435 Avg, and .241 Ops
He has been in 4 for 47 slump of lately. Ouch!

Noteworthy Losers:
Armando Benitez - Pickle Weasels
4 G's, 2.1 Ip, 1 L, 7 R's, 6 Er's, 23.146 Era, and 4.286 Whip
Different setting and still sucking!

Taylor Tankersley - Pickle Weasels
2 G's, 1 Ip, 4 Er's, 36.00 Era, and 5.oo Whip
What is in the drinking water in Florida?

Rickie Weeks - Pickle Weasels
1 for 15, 1 Rbi, 1 Sb, .0667 Avg, and .367 Ops.
No comment here.

Homer Bailey - Diggleturb
2 Gs, 2 L's, 13 Er's, -5 K-bb's, 21.935 Era, 3.937 Whip
Looks like he might need to head back to AAA for some more seasoning

Sean Marshall - Slumpbusters
1 Gs, 1 L, 7 Er's, 27.00 Era, and 4.50 Whip

Baseball Video Games?

I was just curious if anyone has played any of baseball game titles that are out this year?

I have been playing MLB 2k7 for the PS3 and it is awesome. I havent had a chance to play MLB The Show 07 yet so I wanted to see if anyone else has. If so, is it worth buying or renting?

I am hoping that some day that they will incorporate fantasy baseball into one of the games. I think this would be a great feature. How cool would it be to track your fantasy team through your video game, like player updates and game lines??

POW Pitching: Week 12

This weeks winner of the POW Pitching award goes to Carlos Zambrano. The guy has been lights out of lately. He needs to throw down more often.

Carlos Zambrano - Poppers
1 Gs, 1 W, 8 Ip, 11 K-Bb's (12 K's), 1.125 Era, .500 Whip
And I almost traded Zito for Zambrano during OSU's Super Regional. Why did I hesitate??

Noteworthy:
Brad Penny - Full Flanull
2 Gs, 2 W's, 15 Ip, 6 K-Bb's (9 K's), 1.200 Era, .867 Whip
Great performance this week by Penny. He need a few more K's to win it.

Tom Glavine - Full Flanull

You gotta love Tom Glavine!

Aaron Harang - Diggleturb
1 Gs, 1 W, 8 Ip, 5 K-Bb's (7 K's), 0.00 Era, .500 Whip
He lost out because he didn't strike out enough guys.

Ben Sheets - Diggleturb
2 Gs, 2 W's, 15 Ip, 5 K-Bb's (9 K's), 1.80 Era, 1.00 Whip
His low K to BB ratio hurt Ben this week.

Yovanni Gallard - FKAky
1 Gs, 1 Nd, 7 Ip, 6 K-Bb's (8 K's), 1.286 Era, 1.00 Whip
2nd career start. To bad he might be headed to the bullpen shortly.

POW Hitting: Week 12

Welcome to the latest installment of Player of the Week (POW) award. There was plenty of production this week which is always fun to see. I had to have some limitations this week or the list could have easily topped out at 20 guys. So I tried to keep it to guys that had over 2 homeruns and batted over .350 for the week. The only exception was for Ryan Braun who had only 1 homerun but stole 3 bases and hit an amazing .419 for the week. If he would had shown more power he would have been a shoe in but he loses out to fellow team Hunter Pence for Player of the Week award.

Hunter Pence - FKAky
3 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 8 R's, 1 Sb, .462 Avg, and 1.44 Ops
His extremely high average and Ops won it this week for Hunter. It also helped out that he nailed three homeruns.

Noteworthy:
Corey Hart - Diggleturb
2 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 11 R's, 3 Sb's, .407 Avg, and 1.096 Ops
Corey had 2/3rds of his teams homeruns (3 total). He was a close second with Braun. His runs and SB numbers were great for this week.

Ryan Braun - FKAky
1 Hr, 8 Rbi's, 6 R's, 3 Sb's, .455 Avg, and 1.32 Ops
Low homerun total hurt Ryan this week but his other stats were amazing.

Alfonso Soriano - FKAky
4 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 6 R's, 1 Sb, .419 Avg, and 1.36 Ops
Third FKAky player listed.

Josh Hamilton - Box Chowers
2 Hr's, 4 Rbi's, 5 R's, .400 Avg, and 1.33 Ops
Crack kills!

Troy Tulowitzki - Pickle Weasels
4 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 7 R's, 1 Sb, .360 Avg, and 1.37 Ops
Tulo could have won it with a few extra base hits this week.

Chris Duncan - Heaters
2 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 2 R's, .444 Avg, and 1.399 Ops
I want Duncan back!

Eric Byrnes - Heaters
2 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 6 R's, 1 Sb, .379 Avg, and 1.034 Ops
Better numbers than Pujols this week...Todd is starting to look like a roto genius!

Luis Gonzalez - Beaners
2 Hr's, 9 Rbi's, 7 R's, .391 Avg, and 1.266 Ops
Not bad for being 42 years old!

RIP!

If you watched the Beavers defeat the North Carolina last night, you are aware that Rod Beck passed away. No information has been given so it makes you think for the worse. Either way, the man will be missed.

WOW: Week 10!

This weeks award is also a two player loser. The first goes to Freddy Garcia and his pathetic start and the other goes to Jason Bay for his lack luster performance. If it wasn't for the homerun that Bay got, he would have been the most worthless.

Freddy Garcia - Utility Men
1 G, 1.2 Ip, 1 L, 6 Er, 32.39 Era, 5.399 Whip

Elijah Dukes one ups himself

From Rotoworld.com

Elijah Dukes was told not to show up at the ballpark Wednesday, with manager Joe Maddon characterizing it as a "personal day."

Alledgedly impregnate an underage girl and get a paid day off. What a strange world it is that we live in.

This is the same guy that had some issues with his wife. If you want to know more, there is a past post about it. This guy has to be the MLB version of Pac Man Jones.

POW: Week 10

Since I neglected studying while I attended the Super Regionals this weekend, I won't be able to the POW awards until later this week. I will get them posted as soon as possible though.

Until then please enjoy the Beavers POW for hitting: Darwin Barney and Joey Wong, and the POW for pitching is Jorge Reyes and Mike Stutes. Go Beavs!

Week 10 Results

Team of the Week: Prothero's Poppers. 8 category wins this week. I needed every one of them as Dustin had a great week also.

7.0 Todd's Heaters
5.0 Andy's Full Flanull

Zero wins on the week for both teams. Wild. Todd's 15 Hrs were huge this week.

WOW: Week 9!

This week goes to a guy who just turned 26 and celebrated his birthday by getting rocked and then he went on to rock his own teammate. All punk team for Carlos Zambrano this week!

Carlos Zambrano - Poopers
10.80 Era, 3.00 Whip, 5 IP, 1 Lose, 38 stitches to Barrett (not really sure about the number of stitches but thought that I would make it be something outrageous.

Congratulations!

Noteworthy:
Billy Donovan

POW Pitching: Week 9

This weeks winner goes to a reliever. I don't like giving much love to closers, since I don't have any quality ones. This weeks award goes to Francisco Cordero of the Full Flannulls.

Francisco Cordero - Full Flannull
4 G, 4 Sv's, 3.1 IP, 0.00 Era, .600 Whip and 4 K-BB's

Noteworthy:
Barry Zito - FKAky
2 GS, 2 W's, 13 IP, 0.00 Era, 1.308 Whip, 7 K-BB's (12 K's)
He walks way to many players causing his whip to be inflated. Great few weeks, his last three starts his era is around 0.45.

Brandon Webb - Poopers
1 GS, 1 W, 8 IP, 0.00 Era, .625 Whip, 7 K-BB's
I hate the Poopers this week so nothing will be said about Brandon Webb.

Randy Johnson - Poopers
1 GS, 1 W, 6 IP, 0.00 Era, .167 Whip, 6 K-BB's
I hate the Poopers this week so not much will be said about Randy Johnson. It would be interesting to see if they would ever allow him to pitch more than 60 pitches in a game.

Jeff Francis - Beaners
1 GS, 1 W, 7 IP, 1.29 Era, .857 Whip, and 5 K-BB's
STUD!

Chris Young - Utility Men
1 GS, 1 W, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, .714 Whip, and 6 K-BB's
Another great week for Chris Young.

POW Hitting: Week 9

This week's player of the week goes to a team that did a lot of talking up of his player. Besides his dad being a bum, this weeks player of the week goes to Prince Fielder of the Utility Men.

Prince Fielder - Utility Men
4 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 5 R's, .391 Avg, and 1.517 Ops
This guy is TIED for the major league lead in homeruns along with Arod.

Noteworthy:
Russel Martin - Slumpbusters
4 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 7 R's, .360 Avg, and 1.265 Ops
I always love when catchers go yard. I wanted to give the award to Russel this week but Calvin still could have won his matchup this week even without him.

Derrek Lee - Utility Men
3 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 5 R's, .385 Avg, and 1.162 Ops
7 of the 10 Utility Men's homeruns were from Lee and Fielder. It's time to mix it up a bit.

Alfonso Soriano - FKAky
3 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 7 R's, .464 Avg, and 1.357 Ops
Soriano had a great end to his week, going deep in three consecutive games and finished the week with a 5 for 5 performance.

Brad Hawpe - Poppers
2 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 5 R's, .444 Avg, and 1.472 Ops
I hate the Poppers this week so nothing will be said about Brad Hawpe.

Dan Uggla - Beaners
3 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 8 R's, .423 Avg, and 1.413 Ops
Great week for Uggla, any other week and he would have won it.

I would like to end with a baseball quote today.
"...remember the final two words in our National Anthem. 'Play Ball'." - Tom Brokaw

Week 9 Results

The team of the week was the Poppers as they won or tie for first in 6 categories! A good all around week for Jason, but the hitting led the way.

3.5 Brian's Box Chowers
8.5 Andy's Full Flanull

Oooo, what's that smell? Oh, it's the stinky hitting from both teams. Andy pulled it out with his pitching.

8.0 Jim's Beaners
4.0 Todd's Heaters

Jim knocks Todd into a tie for last place with Dusty. Bummer for Todd, he actually had a pretty good week. Jim just have a slightly better one. Jim is coming on strong. He's tied for second.

4.0 Kelley's FKAKY
8.0 Prothero's Poppers

Jason takes the week with huge hitting and takes just enough pitching to win.

7.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
5.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Wierd week for Calvin. Calvin rode his 19 HRs (whoa) to a victory and got out of the basement. The wierd thing was that with 19 HRs he hit only 36 RBI and he hit .240. Those must have been the only hits he had all week!

7.0 Matt's Utility Men
5.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Pitching won the week for Matt. Dan just needed to find a HR and a Save somewhere and he would have had the tie. Close week.

We are at the halfway point in the season. Here's how everything stands:

Seed Team Win Loss Tie Pct
1 Prothero's Poppers 7 2 0 0.778
2 Jim's Beaners 5 3 1 0.611

Happy Birthday Zambrano!

WOW: Week 8!

Worthless people tend to be relievers...This might be because if they get rocked they don't have the innings to help them out. Or they might just be over valued. Or they might just suck!

This weeks loser is Bret Myers. Starter turned reliever turned closer is still struggling and I believe that he is now on the DL.

Bret Myers - Full Flanull
.2 IP, 4 ER, 53.973 Era, 6.00 Whip (rounded up)

Noteworthy:
Khali Green - Full Flanull
0 for 15...no hits, no walks...0.00 Avg, and 0.00 Ops.

David Weathers - FKAky
1.1 IP, 1 L, 6 ER, 40.51 Era, 3.751 Whip.

Pat Burrell - Slumpbusters
1 for 16, .063 Avg, .348 Ops.

POW Pitching: Week 8

There was a lot of great pitching performances this week, so if your player was left out, I am sorry. This week's winner goes to a player that has been nominated almost every week but has failed to win the award more than once (Week 4). This weeks POW for pitching is Jake Peavy of FKAky.

Jake Peavy - FKAky
2 GS, 2 W's, 13.0 IP, .692 Era, .615 Whip, and 12 K-BB's (14 K's)
Has allowed 3 or fewer hits in 6 outings this year.

Noteworthy:
Micah Owings - Beaners
1 GS, 1 W, 9.0 IP, 1.00 Era, 1.11 Whip, and 7 K-BB's
This kid is going to be a stud one day. Hopefully he is listening to Randy Johnson for advice in his pitching mechanics. If he does, he will be getting better sooner than later.

Jeff Francis - Beaners
2 GS, 2 W's, 14.2 IP, 1.227 Era, .886 Whip, 4 K-BB's
Nice weeks performance. Has anyone told him that he still pitches for the Rockies???

Trevor Hoffman - Utility Men
4 Sv's, 3.1 IP, 0.00 Era, .90 Whip, 0 K-BB.
Same old Hoffman...this guy is going to pitch until he is 100 years old!

Chris Young - Utiltiy Men
1 GS, 7.0 IP, 1.286 Era, .714 Whip, 8 K-BB's (10 K's)
Another San Diego pitching stud. Maddux and Peavy are great mentors.

Sergio Mitre - Diggleturb
1 GS, 7.2 IP, 0.00 Era, 1.174 Whip, 7 K-BB's
Nice pickup for Dusty. Hopefully he continues pitching well and the Marlin's bats keep hitting.

John Smoltz - Box Chowers
1 GS, 1 W, 7.0 IP, 0.00 Era, 1.00 Whip, 5 K-BB's
200th Career Win! Instant Hall of Famer. 200 W's and 150 Saves....he is a shoe in!

Randy Wolf - Pickle Weasels
2 GS, 1 W, 13.0 IP, 1.385 Era, .846 Whip, 4 K-BB's
I hate the Dodgers but had to include him.

POW Hitting: Week 8

This weeks POW for hitting goes to Jason Bay. Jason was one of the reason's for Calvin's team upsetting the number one team this week. The Slumpbuster's also had a total of 8 guys over 6 Rbi's this week and that helped too. Nice work!

Jason Bay - Slumpbusters
2 Hr's, 10 Rbi's, 6 R's, .458 Avg, and 1.448 Ops

Noteworthy:
Adrian Gonzalez - Diggleturb
2 Hr's, 4 Rbi's, 5 R's, .500 Avg, and 1.533 Ops
Nice numbers this week, especially in average and Ops. He need a bit more production to win it this week though.

Alex Gonzalez - Beaners
3 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 7 R's, .357 Avg, and 1.205 Ops
It looks like if your name ended with Gonzalez that you had a great week, minus Mike Gonzalez that ended up with season ending surgery.

Ryan Howard - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 7 Rbi's , 5 R's, .333 Avg, and 1.444 Ops
Looks like Howard is heating up to his MVP caliber season of last year. Teams better watch out for him.

Carlos Delgado - Slumpbusters

2 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 5 R's, .360 Avg, and .985 Ops
CARLOS!!!!!!!! This guy is finally starting to produce. Better late than never.

Morgan Ensberg - FKAky
3 Hr's, 3 Rbi's, 3 R's, .400 Avg, and 1.700 Ops
only reason why Ensberg didn't win this week was that he only started two games and had a total of 10 at bats. Hopefully Lamb will get benched more this coming week.

Week 8 Results

Team of the week: Jim's Beaners.

Jim had a crazy pitching week. 8 wins! And his ERA was 2.725 and WHIP was 1.128.

Elijah Dukes

Not sure if you have heard anything about Elijah Dukes (He plays for Tampa Bay) but I guess he is running into some trouble with his wife. Here is a message that he left on his wife's voice mail. It has been edited...

"Hey, dawg," said an angry voice. "It's on, dawg. You dead, dawg. I ain't even bulls-------. Your kids too, dawg. It don't even matter to me who is in the car with you. N-----, all I know is, n-----, when I see your m-----f------- a-- riding, dawg, it's on. As a matter of fact, I'm coming to your m----- f------ house."

He also supposedly sent her a photo of a hand gun to her cell phone too. When he was asked about the situation before today's game he was quoted saying

"I'm just going to play ball, that's it, I've got to go. I've got a video game to finish."

We know were is priorities are...this is messed up! This has to be in the running for best quote for the year.

WOW: Week 7!

WOW wasn't done last week but Heath Bell (Utility Men) was the recipient of WOW for week 6. .1 IP, 54.05 ERA, 12.01 Whip

On to this week's nominations...I am not even going to look at the stats for this award this week. This week's loser is the starting pitchers for Team FKAky (minus Jake Peavy and Jason Hirsh). Here are their stats:

Chris Capuano
1 GS, 5.1 IP, 10.13 Era, 2.06 Whip

Braden Looper
1 GS, 4.0 IP, 15.75 Era, 2.75 Whip

Greg Maddux
1 GS, 3.2 IP, 17.18 Era, 3.27 Whip

Barry Zitto
1 GS, 4.0 IP, 15.750 Era, 3.25 Whip, -5 K-BB

POW Pitching: Week 7

This week's winner goes to the 55 year old Randy Johnson. Though he couldn't make it past the sixth inning in both of his starts, he still picked up two W's and struck out an amazing 19 guys, that is right, 19! He also walked ZERO batters! He now has 47 strike outs in 35.2 innings and only 7 walks. Congratulations. The trophy is in the mail! (no really trophy will be sent in the mail)

Randy Johnson - Poppers
2 GS, 2 Wins, 11.2 IP, 1.54 Era, 0.69 Whip, 19 K-BB (0 BB)

Noteworthy:
John Smoltz - Box Chowers
1 GS, 1 Win, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.57 Whip, 6 K-BB

Roy Oswalt - Slumpbusters
1 GS, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.86 Whip, 4 K-BB.

Tim Lincecum - Slumpbusters
1 GS, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.43 Whip, 9 K-BB (10 K's)

POW Hitting: Week 7

This weeks POW for hitting goes to Aramis Ramirez. He had an amazing 11 Rbi's this past week and hit over 400. Congratulations to Aramis!

Aramis Ramirez - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 11 Rbi's, 5 R's, .435 Avg, and 1.415 OPS

Noteworthy:
Brad Hawpe - Poppers
4 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 5 R's, .300 Avg, and 1.367 OPS
Could have won if his average was a few points higher but it wasn't.

David Wright - Beaners
3 Hr's, 8 Rbi's, 5 R's, 2 Sb's, .333 Avg, and 1.298 OPS
Wright lost out this week since he had fewer Rbi's. The steals didn't play a huge factor in this weeks choice.

Ryan Zimmerman - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 8 R's, .310 Avg, and 1.113 OPS
Two studs from the PW's. He could have had one more noteworthy guy but I decided not to boast his ego to much.

Hunter Pence - FKAky
2 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 5 R's, 1 Sb, .500 Avg, and 1.459 OPS
Hunter could have pulled off the award this week but an 0 for 4 on the last day lowered his average to just .500. Going into the final game he was batting .690.

YES! Dusty gets the win! That moves him out of last ahead of Calvin.

10.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Dan had 15 HRs, 49 R, and an .865 OPS en route to a total domination over Kuo and his Slumpers.

Week 6

Crazy week this week as we had two ties and two 7-5 wins. It looked like all blowouts just a couple of days ago. Dusty and Brian get their second tie of the season, Jason gets back on the winning side, and Jim cruises in for the easiest victory of the week (8-4).

Team of the week:

Prothero's Poppers for taking first overall in 3 pitching categories and not having a last place finish in any other category. The 2.49 era and 0.98 whip was big this week.

5.0 Kelley's FKAKY
7.0 Andy's Full Flanull

This was a very close week. Andy seems to have a lot of these. They very nearly split the hitting and pitching categories evenly.

6.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
6.0 Todd's Heaters

Calvin had one great day. Otherwise, it was a deadlock all week. A fitting tie.

5.0 Matt's Utility Men
7.0 Prothero's Poppers

Jason looked like he would run away with this week, but Matt made a huge last day comeback and nearly pulled out the tie. Jason's pitching and rbi lead was too strong in the end.

6.0 Brian's Box Chowers
6.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dusty had a great week in the averages (.305 ave, .821 ops, 1.13 whip), but couldn't beat the sheer number of HRs, RBI, R that Brian's team pounded out over the week.

8.0 Jim's Beaners
4.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Dan had an amazing week in a few things (14 hrs!) but couldn't get it all together, so Jim's good week overall took the prize.

Week 5 Recap

Week 5 Recap

Here's what happened this week: I lost for the first time (ok, I got killed), Calvin and Dusty dug themselves a bigger hole, and we had another tie.

Teams of the week were too close to call. So everyone's a winner this week (almost). Best teams this week: Full Flanull, Box Chowers, Utility Men, and FKAKY.

I'm not sure if I'll do this every week, but I thought it would be cool to chart the points over the course of the week. That way we can see who made a dramatic comeback or just a good weekend. It's actually pretty cool. Too bad TQ doesn't do something like this (or give us a nice API to plug in to).

6.0 Andy's Full Flanull
6.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

This was a cool tie. Dan took all of the hitting categories and Andy took the pitching ones. Still, Andy was 1 RBI from winning. Ouch.

7.0 Todd's Heaters
5.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dusty made a nice late week comeback, but couldn't quite pull it out in the end. Todd led all week and rode his week leading 7 saves in for the win.

10.0 Brian's Box Chowers
2.0 Prothero's Poppers

Jason started off super fast and fizzled after that. Brian had a super week all around hitting .327 / .865 with 50 runs. Meanwhile he also had a 3.10 / 1.140 pitching week with 28 k-bb.

2.5 Calvin's Slumpbusters
9.5 Kelley's FKAKY

Kelley had a great weekend and zoomed past Calvin for the win. Calvin's pitching is killing him. Of course, so was his hitting this week.

8.5 Matt's Utility Men
3.5 Jim's Beaners

Jim had a great pitching week, but so did Matt. Plus, Matt's hitting week was very good. This was much closer all week than the final tally.
