WOW: Week 8!

Worthless people tend to be relievers...This might be because if they get rocked they don't have the innings to help them out. Or they might just be over valued. Or they might just suck!

This weeks loser is Bret Myers. Starter turned reliever turned closer is still struggling and I believe that he is now on the DL.

Bret Myers - Full Flanull
.2 IP, 4 ER, 53.973 Era, 6.00 Whip (rounded up)

Noteworthy:
Khali Green - Full Flanull
0 for 15...no hits, no walks...0.00 Avg, and 0.00 Ops.

David Weathers - FKAky
1.1 IP, 1 L, 6 ER, 40.51 Era, 3.751 Whip.

Pat Burrell - Slumpbusters
1 for 16, .063 Avg, .348 Ops.

POW Pitching: Week 8

There was a lot of great pitching performances this week, so if your player was left out, I am sorry. This week's winner goes to a player that has been nominated almost every week but has failed to win the award more than once (Week 4). This weeks POW for pitching is Jake Peavy of FKAky.

Jake Peavy - FKAky
2 GS, 2 W's, 13.0 IP, .692 Era, .615 Whip, and 12 K-BB's (14 K's)
Has allowed 3 or fewer hits in 6 outings this year.

Noteworthy:
Micah Owings - Beaners
1 GS, 1 W, 9.0 IP, 1.00 Era, 1.11 Whip, and 7 K-BB's
This kid is going to be a stud one day. Hopefully he is listening to Randy Johnson for advice in his pitching mechanics. If he does, he will be getting better sooner than later.

Jeff Francis - Beaners
2 GS, 2 W's, 14.2 IP, 1.227 Era, .886 Whip, 4 K-BB's
Nice weeks performance. Has anyone told him that he still pitches for the Rockies???

Trevor Hoffman - Utility Men
4 Sv's, 3.1 IP, 0.00 Era, .90 Whip, 0 K-BB.
Same old Hoffman...this guy is going to pitch until he is 100 years old!

Chris Young - Utiltiy Men
1 GS, 7.0 IP, 1.286 Era, .714 Whip, 8 K-BB's (10 K's)
Another San Diego pitching stud. Maddux and Peavy are great mentors.

Sergio Mitre - Diggleturb
1 GS, 7.2 IP, 0.00 Era, 1.174 Whip, 7 K-BB's
Nice pickup for Dusty. Hopefully he continues pitching well and the Marlin's bats keep hitting.

John Smoltz - Box Chowers
1 GS, 1 W, 7.0 IP, 0.00 Era, 1.00 Whip, 5 K-BB's
200th Career Win! Instant Hall of Famer. 200 W's and 150 Saves....he is a shoe in!

Randy Wolf - Pickle Weasels
2 GS, 1 W, 13.0 IP, 1.385 Era, .846 Whip, 4 K-BB's
I hate the Dodgers but had to include him.

POW Hitting: Week 8

This weeks POW for hitting goes to Jason Bay. Jason was one of the reason's for Calvin's team upsetting the number one team this week. The Slumpbuster's also had a total of 8 guys over 6 Rbi's this week and that helped too. Nice work!

Jason Bay - Slumpbusters
2 Hr's, 10 Rbi's, 6 R's, .458 Avg, and 1.448 Ops

Noteworthy:
Adrian Gonzalez - Diggleturb
2 Hr's, 4 Rbi's, 5 R's, .500 Avg, and 1.533 Ops
Nice numbers this week, especially in average and Ops. He need a bit more production to win it this week though.

Alex Gonzalez - Beaners
3 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 7 R's, .357 Avg, and 1.205 Ops
It looks like if your name ended with Gonzalez that you had a great week, minus Mike Gonzalez that ended up with season ending surgery.

Ryan Howard - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 7 Rbi's , 5 R's, .333 Avg, and 1.444 Ops
Looks like Howard is heating up to his MVP caliber season of last year. Teams better watch out for him.

Carlos Delgado - Slumpbusters

2 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 5 R's, .360 Avg, and .985 Ops
CARLOS!!!!!!!! This guy is finally starting to produce. Better late than never.

Morgan Ensberg - FKAky
3 Hr's, 3 Rbi's, 3 R's, .400 Avg, and 1.700 Ops
only reason why Ensberg didn't win this week was that he only started two games and had a total of 10 at bats. Hopefully Lamb will get benched more this coming week.

Week 8 Results

Team of the week: Jim's Beaners.

Jim had a crazy pitching week. 8 wins! And his ERA was 2.725 and WHIP was 1.128.

11.0 Jim's Beaners
1.0 Andy's Full Flanull

6.5 Kelley's FKAKY
5.5 Todd's Heaters

9.5 Calvin's Slumpbusters
2.5 Prothero's Poppers

3.0 Brian's Box Chowers
9.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Elijah Dukes

Not sure if you have heard anything about Elijah Dukes (He plays for Tampa Bay) but I guess he is running into some trouble with his wife. Here is a message that he left on his wife's voice mail. It has been edited...

"Hey, dawg," said an angry voice. "It's on, dawg. You dead, dawg. I ain't even bulls-------. Your kids too, dawg. It don't even matter to me who is in the car with you. N-----, all I know is, n-----, when I see your m-----f------- a-- riding, dawg, it's on. As a matter of fact, I'm coming to your m----- f------ house."

He also supposedly sent her a photo of a hand gun to her cell phone too. When he was asked about the situation before today's game he was quoted saying

"I'm just going to play ball, that's it, I've got to go. I've got a video game to finish."

We know were is priorities are...this is messed up! This has to be in the running for best quote for the year.

WOW: Week 7!

WOW wasn't done last week but Heath Bell (Utility Men) was the recipient of WOW for week 6. .1 IP, 54.05 ERA, 12.01 Whip

On to this week's nominations...I am not even going to look at the stats for this award this week. This week's loser is the starting pitchers for Team FKAky (minus Jake Peavy and Jason Hirsh). Here are their stats:

Chris Capuano
1 GS, 5.1 IP, 10.13 Era, 2.06 Whip

Braden Looper
1 GS, 4.0 IP, 15.75 Era, 2.75 Whip

Greg Maddux
1 GS, 3.2 IP, 17.18 Era, 3.27 Whip

Barry Zitto
1 GS, 4.0 IP, 15.750 Era, 3.25 Whip, -5 K-BB

POW Pitching: Week 7

This week's winner goes to the 55 year old Randy Johnson. Though he couldn't make it past the sixth inning in both of his starts, he still picked up two W's and struck out an amazing 19 guys, that is right, 19! He also walked ZERO batters! He now has 47 strike outs in 35.2 innings and only 7 walks. Congratulations. The trophy is in the mail! (no really trophy will be sent in the mail)

Randy Johnson - Poppers
2 GS, 2 Wins, 11.2 IP, 1.54 Era, 0.69 Whip, 19 K-BB (0 BB)

Noteworthy:
John Smoltz - Box Chowers
1 GS, 1 Win, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.57 Whip, 6 K-BB

Roy Oswalt - Slumpbusters
1 GS, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.86 Whip, 4 K-BB.

Tim Lincecum - Slumpbusters
1 GS, 7 IP, 0.00 Era, 0.43 Whip, 9 K-BB (10 K's)

POW Hitting: Week 7

This weeks POW for hitting goes to Aramis Ramirez. He had an amazing 11 Rbi's this past week and hit over 400. Congratulations to Aramis!

Aramis Ramirez - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 11 Rbi's, 5 R's, .435 Avg, and 1.415 OPS

Noteworthy:
Brad Hawpe - Poppers
4 Hr's, 7 Rbi's, 5 R's, .300 Avg, and 1.367 OPS
Could have won if his average was a few points higher but it wasn't.

David Wright - Beaners
3 Hr's, 8 Rbi's, 5 R's, 2 Sb's, .333 Avg, and 1.298 OPS
Wright lost out this week since he had fewer Rbi's. The steals didn't play a huge factor in this weeks choice.

Ryan Zimmerman - Pickle Weasels
3 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 8 R's, .310 Avg, and 1.113 OPS
Two studs from the PW's. He could have had one more noteworthy guy but I decided not to boast his ego to much.

Hunter Pence - FKAky
2 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 5 R's, 1 Sb, .500 Avg, and 1.459 OPS
Hunter could have pulled off the award this week but an 0 for 4 on the last day lowered his average to just .500. Going into the final game he was batting .690.

Week 7 Results

The team of the week is Dan's Pickle Weasels. He had a huge hitting week and dominated Calvin.

Matt is starting to turn things around. 2 wins in the last 3 weeks.

Pitching gets it done this week as Jason puts up 78 IP, 6 W, and 39 K-BB.

6.5 Dustin's Diggleturb

YES! Dusty gets the win! That moves him out of last ahead of Calvin.

2.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
10.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Dan had 15 HRs, 49 R, and an .865 OPS en route to a total domination over Kuo and his Slumpers.

Week 6

Crazy week this week as we had two ties and two 7-5 wins. It looked like all blowouts just a couple of days ago. Dusty and Brian get their second tie of the season, Jason gets back on the winning side, and Jim cruises in for the easiest victory of the week (8-4).

Team of the week:

Prothero's Poppers for taking first overall in 3 pitching categories and not having a last place finish in any other category. The 2.49 era and 0.98 whip was big this week.

5.0 Kelley's FKAKY
7.0 Andy's Full Flanull

This was a very close week. Andy seems to have a lot of these. They very nearly split the hitting and pitching categories evenly.

6.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
6.0 Todd's Heaters

Calvin had one great day. Otherwise, it was a deadlock all week. A fitting tie.

5.0 Matt's Utility Men
7.0 Prothero's Poppers

Jason looked like he would run away with this week, but Matt made a huge last day comeback and nearly pulled out the tie. Jason's pitching and rbi lead was too strong in the end.

6.0 Brian's Box Chowers
6.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dusty had a great week in the averages (.305 ave, .821 ops, 1.13 whip), but couldn't beat the sheer number of HRs, RBI, R that Brian's team pounded out over the week.

8.0 Jim's Beaners
4.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Dan had an amazing week in a few things (14 hrs!) but couldn't get it all together, so Jim's good week overall took the prize.

Charts going into the weekend

Here are the week 6 charts going into the weekend:

Best games to watch are Calvin/Todd and Jim/Dan.

Week 5 Recap

Week 5 Recap

Here's what happened this week: I lost for the first time (ok, I got killed), Calvin and Dusty dug themselves a bigger hole, and we had another tie.

Teams of the week were too close to call. So everyone's a winner this week (almost). Best teams this week: Full Flanull, Box Chowers, Utility Men, and FKAKY.

I'm not sure if I'll do this every week, but I thought it would be cool to chart the points over the course of the week. That way we can see who made a dramatic comeback or just a good weekend. It's actually pretty cool. Too bad TQ doesn't do something like this (or give us a nice API to plug in to).

6.0 Andy's Full Flanull
6.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

This was a cool tie. Dan took all of the hitting categories and Andy took the pitching ones. Still, Andy was 1 RBI from winning. Ouch.

7.0 Todd's Heaters
5.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dusty made a nice late week comeback, but couldn't quite pull it out in the end. Todd led all week and rode his week leading 7 saves in for the win.

10.0 Brian's Box Chowers
2.0 Prothero's Poppers

Jason started off super fast and fizzled after that. Brian had a super week all around hitting .327 / .865 with 50 runs. Meanwhile he also had a 3.10 / 1.140 pitching week with 28 k-bb.

2.5 Calvin's Slumpbusters
9.5 Kelley's FKAKY

Kelley had a great weekend and zoomed past Calvin for the win. Calvin's pitching is killing him. Of course, so was his hitting this week.

8.5 Matt's Utility Men
3.5 Jim's Beaners

Jim had a great pitching week, but so did Matt. Plus, Matt's hitting week was very good. This was much closer all week than the final tally.

Week 5 - Worthless of the Week

This weeks award goes to someone who has a bounty on his head for hitting Prince Fielder, this weeks loser is Matt Capps. Cecil Fielder was asked what he thought of the pitch that nailed his son and was quoted "I be going ta smoke him, an' dem eat him, git in muh ma (expletive) belly this (expletive)" Those are some strange remarks, thanks Cecil. (For the rated R version of his comment, add a word starting with the letter F for the first one, and the letter S for the second.)

Matt Capps - Pickle Weasels
3 G's, 1.2 IP, 16.20 ERA, 2.40 Whip and 10 game suspension.

Notheworthy:
Matt Cain - Heaters
1 G, 3.0 IP, 21 ERA, 4 Whip, and -2 K-BB's.

Andruw Jones - Box Chowers
1 for 21, .048 Avg, .248 OPS. (enough said)

Previous Losers:
Trevor Hoffman - Utility Men (Week 4)
Brett Myers - Full Flanull (Week 3)

Zach Duke - Utility Men (Week 2)
Jorge Julio - Pickle Weasels (Week 1)
Brad Lidge - Box Chowers (Week 1)

Week 5 - Pitcher of the Week

This week's pitcher of the week is provided by The Cream and the Clear lite, 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back.

This week I was threatened, they shall remain nameless, that if I didn't pick Brad Penny for pitcher of the week that all my future selections would be protested for ever. I believed I cracked under his pressure, here is this weeks pitcher of the week.

Brad Penny - Full Flanull
2 G's, 1 W, 13 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.92 Whip, 14 K-BB.

Noteworthy:
Francisco Cordero - Full Flanull
4 G's, 3 Sv's, 3.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.00 Whip, 4 K-BB.

Bret Myers - Full Flanull
3 G's, 2 Sv's, 2.2 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.75 Whip, 2 K-BB.

Previous Winners:
Jake Peavy - FKAky (Week 4)
Cole Hamels - Beaners (Week 3)
Brad Penny - Full Flannel (Week 2)
Ted Lilly - Diggleturds - (Week 1)

Week 5 - Hitter of the Week

This weeks hitter of the week is sponsored by Big Papi's steroid shakes. Available in three distinct flavors, enlarged testes, big header, and chocolate. Offer vaild in the Dominican Republic only.....hmmm...steroids in a shake. (If you don't know what I am talking about check out Big Papis's article at ESPN.com.)

This weeks winner is the Prince of Fielder.
Prince Fielder - Utility Men
3 Hr's, 11 Rbi's, 6 R's, .360 Avg, 1.187 OPS. (also helped pay off part of his fathers huge gambling debt)

Noteworthy:
Shane Victorino - Box Chowers
1 Hr, 5 Rbi's, 7 R's, 6 Sb's, .417 Avg, 1.023 OPS. (One more homerun and Shane would have taken this weeks award. )

JJ Hardy - Box Chowers

2 Hrs, 9 Rbi's, 8 R's, .536 Avg, 1.424 OPS. (This guy is on fire, someone bring him back to reality)

Adam Dunn - Full Flanull
3 Hr's 7 Rbi's, 8 R's, 1 Sb, .296 Avg, 1.147 OPS. (only struck out 9 times though)

Ken Griffey Jr - Heaters
3 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 5 R's, 1 Sb, .444 Avg, 1.346 OPS. (wrestling with kids on yacht - 0)

Alex Gonzalez - Beaners
4 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 6 R's, .241 Avg, 1.037 OPS. (almost had more homeruns this week then the past two years combined, 5).

Benji Molina - Poppers
2 Hrs, 8 Rbi's, 3 R's, .500 Avg, 1.374 OPS. (20 atbats, really one great game but still enough to get noteworthy status)

Previous Winners:
Alex Gonzalez - Heaters (Week 4)
JJ Hardy - Box Chowers (Week 3)
Rickie Weeks - FKAky (Week 2)
Miguel Cabrera - Poppers (Week 1)

Worthless of the Week

This week's worthless of the week goes to Trevor Hoffman of the Utility Men. Even though he saved two games he got worked on Trevor Hoffman bobble head night. He ended up with a 20.25 ERA, 2 Loses and a WHIP of 2.25. He had a two game stretch where he gave up 6 ER's in 1.3 innings pitched too. That is an ERA of over 40 over those two outings.

Noteworthy:
Bob Wickman - Poppers
16.87 ERA. 4.50 WHIP, 2.2 IP.

Carlos Delgado - Slumpbusters
.091 Avg, .258 OPS, 2 hits in 22 ab's

Previous Worthless:
Brett Myers - Full Flanull (Week 3)
Zach Duke - Utility Men (Week 2)
Jorge Julio - Pickle Weasels (Week 1)
Brad Lidge - Box Chowers (Week 1)

Week 4 - Pitcher (Hancock) of the Week

I am thinking about renaming the Pitcher of the Week to the Hancock of the Week. This is in memory of Josh Hancock. Hopefully this isnt an objection to this. There were a lot of outstanding performances this past week but I am only going to mention two. If your feelings are hurt to bad.

This weeks winner is a dual winner between Jake Peavy and Jeff Suppan.

Jake Peavy - FKAky
2 G's, 14 IP, 1 W, 1.93 Era, 0.93 Whip, 21 K- BB (26 total K's).
Peavy stroke out nine consective batters in a row in his first game this past week. He ended up with a total of 16 in 7 innings. He followed that up by striking out 10 in his next outing. He almost averaged 2 strikeouts per inning last week. CRAZY INSANE! He even had a better ratio of K-BB's then half the other team's in our league.

Jeff Suppan - Box Chowers
2 G's, 17 IP, 2 W's, 0.53 ERA, 1.06 Whip, 6 K-BB
Didn't the Box Chowers get Suppan for a buck??? That is a nice dollar menu item.

Noteworthy:
(insert your game changing performance here)

Previous Winners:
Cole Hamels - Beaners (Week 3)
Brad Penny - Full Flannel (Week 2)
Ted Lilly - Diggleturds - (Week 1)

Week 4 - Hitter of the Week

I am going to start breaking up the Hitter of the week and Pitcher of the week awards to make it easier to read.

This week winner is Alex Gonzalez. Once you compare his stats against everyone else for the past week it is hard not to give it to him.

Alex Gonzalez - Beaners
3 Hr's, 6 Rbi's, 9 R's, .520 Avg, and 1.578 OPS.
Dang...quite impressive

Noteworthy:
Troy Tulowitzki
(it took me four times to figure out how to spell his name) - Pickle Weasels
2 Hr's, 2 Triples, 6 Rbi's, 5 R's, .360 Avg, and 1.227 OPS
He also had an unassisted triple play last week which he didn't believe that he done it and that is why he was seen retouching second and then throwing to first. Quite funny if you got to witness it.

Barry Bonds - FKAky
2 Hr's, 5 Rbi's, 5 R's, .385 Avg, 1.538 OPS, (and maybe the most impressive stat) 12 BB's and 7 IBB's. Teams are starting to fear Barry. He is at 742 total homeruns for his career just in case you weren't aware.

Stephen Drew - Heaters
1 Hr, 7 Rbi's, 4 R's, .385 Avg, and 1.061 OPS
He had some clutch hits last week.

Andrew Jones - Box Chowers
2 Hr's, 8 Rbi's, 4 R's, .318 Avg, 1.110 OPS.

Previous Winners:
JJ Hardy - Box Chowers (Week 3)
Rickie Weeks - FKAky (Week 2)
Miguel Cabrera - Poppers (Week 1)

REEL BASEBALL

From the NYTimes:

REEL BASEBALL: 1899-1926

I know about as much about baseball as I do about quantum physics, but I found much of the material in this two disc-set, recently released by Kino, absolutely fascinating. Cinephiles who reflexively avoid sports movies (not the most distinguished of genres) will find “Reel Baseball: 1899-1926” a thinly disguised attempt to smuggle some lesser-known early films onto the DVD market. Baseball fans will be delighted by the dramatic presence of a young, slim Babe Ruth, playing an imaginary version of himself in the 1920 feature “Headin’ Home,” and by the great New York Giants manager John McGraw, playing himself in an excerpt from the 1917 Edison feature “One Touch of Nature.”

Week 4 Recap

Week 4 featured the first major match-up of the season when the two remaining unbeatens, Andy and Jason, faced off. In other news, Dustin nearly completed a comeback against Jim for the win, but had to settle for the tie as he gets some points.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Prothero's Poppers.

Jason's team had the best totals in 5 categories this week. They would have beaten every other team this week.

4.5 Andy's Full Flanull
7.5 Prothero's Poppers

The matchup started off heated, but the Poppers simply wore the Full Flanull down as the week went on. It's tough to beat the team of the week.

7.0 Todd's Heaters
5.0 Dan's Pickle Weasels

Todd squeaked by on his pitching this week in a very close week.

6.0 Jim's Beaners
6.0 Dustin's Diggleturb

Dusty was hoping for his first win this week, but had to settle for his first tie. I thought he was destined for another L after Monday's pitching performance, but somehow he pulled it out.

2.0 Calvin's Slumpbusters
10.0 Brian's Box Chowers

Brain flexed his pitching muscles and swept pitching. Unfortunately, Calvin is still mired in a hitting slump, so he got killed this week. Time for a slumpbuster Kuo!

5.5 Matt's Utility Men
6.5 Kelley's FKAKY

Kelley overcame being last in the league for the week in 2 categories to pull out a win against the Utility Men. Matt had a decent week. Just a few more RBI and he would have had at least a tie.
